Hon. Colonial Secretary,
The roofing for the Loco Shed supplied by the Crow Agents under Indent No. 116(173) of December 1914, their requisition No. 129/1, on arrival in the Colony was examined and found to be utterly useless for the purpose as is shown in the Report of the Acting Engineer of Ways and Works.
This material had to be condemned and as the use of the shed was required urgently sanction was obtained to replace the damaged roofing by a concrete slab mof. This was done at an additional cost of $1,567.70.
The total cost of the roofing material suppli- -ed has been taken from the books of the Railway and is as followB

I consider that a claim should be lodged for the additional cost to which the Government ma put to owing to the material supplied being unfit for use and not in conformity with Specification. This additional cost viz., cost of erecting the concrete slab roof is, as stated above, 81,567.70 and at then current rate of exchange of 2/24 is £171.9.4 sterling. This amount I consider the Crom Agents should be requested to obtain from the makers of the roofing which was condemned.
